Tales from the Great Jewish Mystics

Sponsored by “For Words” Series, EngLing and PHRE Departments, and Hillil at Truman

Novelist, poet, and folklore scholar Howard Schwartz will be presenting “Tales from the Great Jewish Mystics” at 7:00 p.m. on March 18, in Truman’s SUB Activities Room.  Schwartz is a major figure in Jewish folklore and mythology studies, author of six novels, three books of poetry, editor of over a dozen collections of Jewish myths and folktales, parables, poems, proverbs and jokes—seven of them published by Oxford University Press—a book on Biblical interpretation, and a dozen children’s books.  He  teaches creative writing at University of Missouri at St. Louis.  His talk is the first event in a series titled “For Words,” sponsored by the English and Linguistics Department;  the Philosophy and Religion Department is co-sponsoring this even, and refreshments following his talk will be provided by Hillel.
